Celebrating 25 years of helping Kiwis every day

Cash Converters is celebrating 25 years of helping Kiwis every day. Our goal has always been to help our customers get on with their day-to-day lives. Whether it’s buying or selling quality used items, or offering responsible financial solutions. Since the opening of our first store in Panmure in 1993, to the 27 stores nationwide we operate today, a lot has changed in 25 years, but one thing has remained the same - our strong values and respect for our customers.

“Our business is based firmly on relationships and our values of passion, integrity, collaboration, professionalism and respect.” Colin Mahoney, National Franchising Manager

To thank our customers and help mark the occasion, Cash Converters is running a series of 25th Anniversary competitions on our Facebook page, as well as sharing stories from long-serving team members and a few ‘flashbacks’ from the past quarter of a century.

Thank you to everyone who has visited our stores and used our services over the last 25 years, to our fantastic and dedicated team, and to our partners who have supported us. It’s been an honour to be part of the local community, and we’re committed to continuing to provide high quality products and excellent customer service for the next 25 years.

25 years of Cash Converters in the community

The Cash Converters franchise system started in New Zealand in 1993 and grew from there. During the last 10 years, our number of stores has grown from 14 to 27, and we employ more than 380 people. There are 16 corporate owned and operated stores in Auckland and Christchurch and 11 franchise operated stores throughout the rest of the country.

In the earlier years, Cash Converters New Zealand focused primarily on second hand dealing, buying and selling unwanted or unused items.

Responding to a growing customer need for short-term lending to manage urgent unplanned expenses, Cash Converters introduced pawn broking and then a range of small loan products, underpinned by a unique software system.

Today Cash Converters is the country’s largest provider of small loans. We help thousands of everyday Kiwis with responsible financial solutions – last year we provided 305,000 small loans.

Integrity is one of Cash Converters’ core values, so we take pride in our long-standing reputation for transparent, responsible and ethical conduct and services in the New Zealand market place. Cash Converters has contributed to consumer credit reform for 12 years including the recent review of the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act (CCCFA) and the associated Responsible Lending Code.

We’re also a major financial supporter of the NZ Police initiative ‘Operation SNAP’ (Serial Number Action Project), which aims to prevent burglary and property offending and make it harder for criminals to sell stolen goods in New Zealand

Cash Converters has been a part of your community for 25 years, and we have been giving back to the community in all sorts of ways. From partnerships, events, sponsorships and fund-raisers to participating in local community initiatives or sporting events, we support the communities we live in and will continue to do so for many years to come.
